The metals industry is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, with iron, steel and aluminium production responsible for more than 10% of man-made CO2 emissions worldwide. Switching to renewable hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels is a prime focus for decarbonisation in this key industrial sector. In support of this, Spooner has spent several years researching and improving the efficiency of our systems and testing the use of hydrogen as a zero carbon heat source within their equipment.
Being the leading manufacturer of thermal systems for metal strip processing equipment, including industrial ovens for precision drying and curing, we can ensure a continuous controlled process whilst reducing your carbon emissions and enhancing your efficiency with the use of hydrogen.
It is not just our hydrogen dryers and ovens that can support your drive towards decarbonisation and sustainability, Spooner’s heat recovery systems and pollution abatement oxidisers can take you that step further.

One recent Spooner order included a highly thermally efficient oxidiser based on zero carbon fuel. This hydrogen powered regenerative thermal oxidiser (RTO) not only eliminates volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions in an effective and efficient way but gives the added benefit of supporting a decarbonisation strategy. This particular customer also requested an integrated Spooner heat recovery system to reclaim energy from the RTO and return it back to the process. The best part is that this operational saving reduces their environmental footprint and provides an impressive two-year ROI.
Hydrogen is already playing a pivotal role towards a climate friendly industrial world – why not invest for a sustainable future and choose Spooner know how.
