Aluminium is considered one of the most environmentally friendly metals on the planet and can be recycled repeatedly to make various products, or even the same product again. This is why it is considered one of the most valuable items in recycling bins and coupled with the fact almost 75% of aluminium ever made is still in use today, it is no wonder there is a push from plastic to aluminium.

The aluminium of a drinks can, for example, needs to be light, malleable and yet still durable for long term use. Therefore, the manufacturing process behind aluminium canstock and endstock requires precise equipment, particularly when it comes to lacquering of the metal.

With a recent order having been placed for a 70m + Spooner Lacquer Oven and Air Cooler, along with two Spooner Passivation Dryers and Air Coolers, ElvalHalcor appreciate the accuracy and efficiency of Spooner equipment.
The Spooner systems, currently under construction at our Ilkley site, are based on a specially developed Supa-Max Plus Air flotation nozzle designed to operate with a massive 150 mm nozzle to nozzle gap, whilst still maintaining full control of the strip during drying, curing and cooling operations.
In addition to this equipment, Spooner has also received an order from ElvalHalcor for one of our larger Regenerative Thermal Oxidisers (RTO). On completion the RTO will include secondary and tertiary heat recovery optimised for low energy consumption and a unique indirect heating system for the Spooner Lacquer Oven.
Spooner’s bespoke design work is mainly complete, with manufacturing well under way and now preparing for initial shipments which will take place over the coming months.
